Nos perdimos para perder el miedo

Nada es más eficiente para hacer mover la vida que ponerla en duda, en riesgo; ver cómo se puede esfumar en segundos. Necesitamos perder para valorar; somos tan insensatos en nuestra forma de proteger lo que importa que solo cuando notamos que es frágil y que se puede diluir como una bocanada de humo entre las manos, tomamos acción.

Somos presas fáciles de la comodidad, nos gusta la pereza de buscar seguridades, nos aterra abrazar la incertidumbre y sobrevivir en el continuum de la impermanencia, es más, ni siquiera nos damos cuenta que existe, hasta que nos arranca el corazón, destroza el espíritu y pudre las ganas de vivir. Justo en ese momento, donde notamos que nuestra elasticidad adaptativa es una falacia, es cuando empezamos a llorar por aquello que ya no está, pero que mientras estuvo no cuidamos, no abrazamos, no amamos con toda el alma dispuesta a ser destrozada en el segundo siguiente.

Después de la edición 18, donde tuvimos que poner toda la carne sobre el asador para no refugiarnos tristemente en el mundo digital con la válida de excusa del miedo, donde contra todos los pronósticos nos fue mucho mejor que “del putas”; la 19, ingenuamente, llegué a pensar que no sería tan complicada, que como ya comenzaba la inoculación generalizada de una suerte de esperanza de retorno a la normalidad, veríamos rápidamente la luz. Muchos fuimos ingenuos en los primeros meses del año con ese pensamiento… Luego los meses corrieron y nos dimos cuenta de que el piso que nos habían movido el año anterior ahora se hundía bajo nosotros y todo se tornó entonces más divertido. Me explico, si es difícil es divertido, si es fácil ¿para qué perder el tiempo?

A esa sensación de estar perdidos se le sumó rápidamente lo que se atreven a llamar con ternura mediática “la protesta social”, que no es más que el desfogado, necesario y válido empute generalizado de todo un país -al menos el sensato- por vivir en manos de dirigentes ineptos y en muchos casos también criminales. Tanta rabia fue frustrantemente inspiradora, contagiosa, emocionante y tanta represión asquerosa quedará grabada para siempre. Pero lo que añadió más sal a esa tristeza, fue ver cómo frente a un mar de jóvenes enardecidos, los festivales de cine no hicieron mucho, por no decir nada. Algunos nos pronunciamos, pero incluso lo que nosotros hicimos fue tímido; ni qué decir del vergonzoso silencio de los otros. Los grandes, los de largos, los que dicen hacer festivales para los jóvenes, esos callaron protegiendo sus tres pesos públicos, porque el miedo es la otra forma de la que se viste el odio y la complicidad.

Así que, muy perdidos, duplicada exponencialmente la incertidumbre, con el piso hundido, la represión del estado tocando la puerta y en manos de tanta gestión cultural auto silenciada, pues no había otra opción que preguntarnos ¿DÓNDE PUTAS ESTAMOS? La verdad, así lo deseemos fervientemente, no tenemos el camino claro para ustedes. Podrán navegar la programación y las actividades paralelas y encontrar muchos caminos potenciales; ojalá alguno les sirva, pero sí estamos seguros de que por más ingenua que suene, la esperanza, y por supuesto una mirada crítica a este sancocho de país que amamos, si será nuestra bandera siempre, nuestro camino. Se acercan dos décadas de BOGOSHORTS y por eso caminaremos decididos y sin detenernos hacia la luz, con la fe intacta y una planta entre las manos bautizada “Nueva Esperanza”, la cual no vamos a dejar de regar nunca. No seremos cómodos ni miedosos ni tan tontos como para no amar lo que de todas formas no será eterno.

Vean cortos, difíciles y fáciles, buenos y perversos, abiertos y cerrados, luminosos y oscuros, extensos y diminutos. Vean cortos porque el tiempo que tenemos para tratar de hacerlo mejor como sociedad y como individuos, es corto. Diviértanse en 2021 con el festival y en 2022 voten, por el que les dé la gana, pero voten.

Nothing is more efficient to make life move, than to put it in doubt, at risk; to see how it can vanish in seconds. We need to lose in order to value; we are so foolish in our way of protecting what matters that only when we notice that it is fragile and can be diluted like a puff of smoke between our hands, do we take action.

We are easy prey to comfort, we like the laziness of seeking security, we are terrified of embracing uncertainty and surviving in the continuum of impermanence, indeed, we do not even realize it exists, until it tears our heart out, destroys our spirit and rots our will to live. Just at that moment, when we realize that our adaptive elasticity is a fallacy, is when we begin to cry for what is no longer there, but that while it was there we did not care for, we did not embrace, we did not love with all our soul ready to be shattered in the next second.

After the 18th edition, when we had to put it all in to avoid taking refuge in the digital world with the valid excuse of fear, when against all odds we did much better than "del putas" (“fucking great”); the 19th edition, naively, I came to think that it would not be so complicated, that since the generalized inoculation of a sort of hope for a return to normality was already beginning, we would quickly see the light. Many of us were naive in the first months of the year with that thought... Then the months went by and we realized that the floor that had been moved under us the previous year was now sinking and everything became more fun. I mean, if it's hard it's fun, if it's easy, why waste time?

To that feeling of being lost was quickly added what they dare to call with media tenderness "the social protest", which is nothing more than the unburdened, necessary and valid generalized anger of a whole country -at least the sensible one- for living in the hands of inept leaders and in many cases, also criminals. So much rage was frustratingly inspiring, contagious, exciting and so much disgusting repression will remain recorded forever. But what added more salt to that sadness, was to see how in the face of a sea of angry young people, film festivals did little, if anything. Some of us spoke out, but even what we did was timid; not to mention the shameful silence of the others. The big ones, the ones with feature films, the ones that claim to organize festivals for young people, they kept silent, protecting a few dollars from the government, because fear is the other form in which hatred and complicity are dressed.

So, very lost, with uncertainty doubled exponentially, with the ground sinking, state repression knocking at the door and in the hands of so much self-silenced cultural management, there was no other option but to ask ourselves, WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE? The truth is, even if we fervently wish it, we don't have a clear path for you. You can explore the program and the parallel activities and find many potential paths; hopefully some of them will serve you, but we are sure that as naive as it may sound, hope, and of course a critical look at this country we love, will always be our flag, our path.

Two decades of BOGOSHORTS are approaching and that is why we will walk determined and without stopping towards the light, with our faith intact and a plant in our hands baptized "New Hope", which we will never stop watering. We will not be comfortable or fearful or so foolish as not to love what in any case will not last forever.

Go watch short films, difficult and easy, good and awful, open and closed, light and dark, vast and tiny. Go watch shorts because the time we have to try to do better as a society and as individuals, is short. Have fun in 2021 with the festival and in 2022, go vote, for the one you want, but vote.
