BOGOSHORTS entra en la lista de festivales calificadores de cortometrajes para los Premios Óscar (Academy Awards®)

El Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS, que celebrará su 16º edición del 4 al 11 de diciembre de 2018, ha sido incluido en la lista de festivales calificadores a los Premios de la Academia (Academy Awards®), organizados anualmente por la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas (AMPAS, por sus siglas en inglés).

Desde 2018, los ganadores de la Santa Lucía a mejor corto de ficción y mejor corto de animación de la Competencia Nacional de BOGOSHORTS, serán elegibles para su consideración en las categorías de mejor corto de acción real y mejor corto animado de los Premios Óscar (Oscars®), en la temporada correspondiente, siempre y cuando cumplan con el reglamento de inscripción y participación de la Academia.

Los cortometrajes ganadores en las categorías mencionadas durante el #16BOGOSHORTS, podrán inscribirse al proceso de consideración en 2019, y optar por una nominación en la 92º entrega de los Premios de la Academia que se celebrará en 2020.

Existen tres maneras en las que realizadores de cortometrajes pueden buscar ganar la preciada estatuilla de los Premios Óscar, en las categorías de mejor cortometraje en acción real y mejor cortometraje animado:

- Exhibiendo la obra públicamente con entrada paga en salas de cine del Condado de Los Ángeles (California, EEUU) durante mínimo siete días consecutivos con al menos una exhibición diaria debidamente promocionada por la sala, antes de cualquier otra exhibición o distribución del corto por fuera de salas de cine.

- Ganando una Medalla de Oro, Plata o Bronce en la edición anterior de los Premios de la Academia para Estudiantes (Student Academy Awards) organizados por la misma Academia, en las categorías de Animación, Narrativa, Alternativa o Película extranjera.

- O ganando un premio calificador en un festival competitivo incluido en la lista de Festivales Calificadores de Cortometrajes, sin importar cualquier otra exhibición o distribución anterior por fuera de salas de cine.

Cualquiera de los criterios debe haberse cumplido dentro de los dos primeros años después de la finalización del cortometraje, y se debe presentar la postulación (especificando el criterio que se cumple) en el período determinado antes de cada entrega de los premios, siguiendo el reglamento de la Academia, disponible en: https://www.oscars.org/oscars/rules-eligibility. Tras el cierre del período de postulación, los miembros de la Academia votarán para seleccionar los cortometrajes nominados en la siguiente ceremonia y, finalmente, elegirán también por votación al ganador del Óscar en cada categoría.

La lista de festivales calificadores para las categorías de mejor corto de acción real y mejor corto animado, actualmente cuenta con 110 festivales y certámenes que premian cortometrajes en todo el mundo. Solo siete de ellos son realizados en Latinoamérica.

BOGOSHORTS enters the list of short film qualifying festivals for the Oscars®

The Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS, which will celebrate its 16 th edition from December 4 to 11, 2018, has been included in the list of short film qualifying festivals for the Academy Awards®, organized annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - AMPAS.

Since 2018, the winners of the Santa Lucía for Best Fiction Short Film and Best Animation Short Film of the National Competition of BOGOSHORTS, will be eligible for consideration in the categories of Best Live Action Short Film and Best Animated Short Film of the Oscars®, in the concurrent season, as long as they comply with the registration and participation regulations of the Academy.

The short films awarded in the mentioned categories during the #16BOGOSHORTS, will be able to submit to the consideration process in 2019, and opt for a nomination in the 92° edition of the Academy Awards to be held in 2020.

There are three ways in which short filmmakers can seek to win the coveted Oscar® statue, in the categories of Best Live Action Short Film and Best Animated Short Film:

- Publicly screening the work with paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County (California, USA) during a minimum of seven consecutive days with at least one daily exhibition duly promoted by the theater, prior to any other public exhibition or distribution of the film by any non-theatrical means.

- Winning a Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal in the previous edition of the Student Academy Awards organized by AMPAS, in the Animation, Narrative, Alternative or Foreign Film categories.

- Or winning a qualifying award at a competitive festival included in the Short Film Qualifying Festival Lists, regardless of any other exhibition or previous distribution by any non-theatrical means.

Any of the criteria must have been met within the first two years after the completion of the short film and the application must be made (specifying the criterion that is met) in the period determined before each edition of the Academy Awards, following AMPAS’ regulations, available at: https://www.oscars.org/oscars/rules-eligibility. After the closing of the application period, members of the Academy vote to select the short films nominated for the next Oscars ceremony, and finally they vote to choose the Oscar winner in each category.

The list of qualifying festivals for the categories of Best Live Action Short Film and Best Animated Short Film, currently includes 110 festivals and events that recognize short films from all over the world. Only seven of them take place in Latin America.
