Colombian band Bomba Estéreo takes part in two new short films

The members of the electro-tropical band venture into the world of the short films with Tierra and El Duende.

Calgary and Guanajuato are some of the festivals in which these short films have participated, whose themes are the musical tradition of the Colombian Pacific and the queer representations.

Simón Mejía, the founder of Bomba Estéreo, in addition to being part of the band, is a remixer, filmmaker and supporter of all kinds of Colombian music. His most recent creation is a short documentary called El Duende, co-directed with Lucas Silva and Simón Hernández. This film immerses us in the deep mysticism of the Pacific region in Colombia, while letting us see the invaluable legacy of the ‎Dinastía Torres in Colombian music.

This project began with four songs that Simón Mejía mixed based on the Dinastía Torres. El Duende is a project born from music and tells the myth behind the Marimba. They say that to learn how to build it, play it and make its art, you have to go into the peaceful jungle and there a goblin will teach you everything about the instrument. A project that combines the roots, the territory, the music and the testimonies of those who believe it.

On the other hand, Li Saumet, vocalist of the Colombian band, makes her debut as an actress in the short film Tierra, where Simón Mejía is in charge of the original music and audio mix. The short is directed by Fana Adjani and was shot over two days in Zapotec and Spanish, alongside the performance artist Lukas Avendaño. It is an experimental genre production with a Queer / LGBTQ+ topic that talks about the assertion of femininities for a free Latin America.

The short was part of the official selection of the Queer Fairy Tales Film Festival, one of the most prominent international LGBTQ+ film festivals, held in the city of Calgary, Canada, where it also won the Programer's Choice Award for Best Short Film. She also participated with a special screening at GAVLAK Gallery in Los Angeles, one of the most important contemporary art galleries in the world whose main curatorial interest is to support women and LGBTQ+ artists. At the end of July, it was part of the 25th edition of the Guanajuato International Film Festivalo.

Bomba Estéreo has eight record works that consolidate it as one of the most important Colombian bands. Some of the most important international music festivals and events in which Bomba Estéreo has participated are: Vive Latino (Mexico), Roskilde (Denmark), Glastonbury (UK), Bonnaroo (USA), Womex (Denmark), Rock al Parque (COL) , SWU (Brazil), Lollapalooza (USA), Coachella (USA), Transmusicales (France), Fireboll (South Africa), Solaris (Peru), among many others.
